FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
FILE QUESTIONS
When do I get the email to download the high resolution file?
Our site admin has to manually read through each submission form, so it’s not an automated process. Submissions will be routinely checked at 9 am EST and/or around 6-9pm EST(during business days). So please be patient.
It’s been X days since I submitted the form, I still haven’t received the response.
This is normal, Our site admin doesn’t work on this site full time and might not be available for a couple days. Don’t worry, your form was submitted and a response should be sent back to you within a couple days. Check the update statuses in the comments below. Please refrain from double/triple sending your form, it will not speed up the submission process. If you still haven’t received it after recent status updates, please check your spam folders. It could be possible that it was falsely detected as spam mail.
The password Link you sent doesn’t work? How do I get the password?
Please read the the Contest Acceptance email again, and again if you have to. The Password is NOT a Link, your email program automatically flags it as a link, but it’s NOT a link. That IS the password. Yes, It’s that simple!
I can’t enter the password. How do I extract the ZIP file?
You will need a better extraction tool, the default de-compression tools that come with both Windows and OS X do not offer passworded extractions. If you are on a PC, you need either Winzip or Winrar. If you are using OS X, StuffIt Expander works fine. You do not need to purchase those programs to extract the files, the freeware or shareware versions will do.
I can’t open the file. What format is this?
TIFF(TIF) files are the industry standard. It’s a loss-less format that retains all of the quality of the file without any compression artifacts(ie; JPG). The file was created in Adobe Photoshop, this should be compatible with most photo and painting programs. We recommend either Adobe Photoshop CS3/CS4 or Corel Painter XI as the coloring software to use.
STREET FIGHTER QUESTIONS
I don’t know all the characters, where can I get more information?
Alvin’s SF Tribute consists of the entire lineup of characters (except for boss character Gill) from Street Fighter III – 3rd Strike. All the characters are listed on this Wikia page (courtesy of Wikia Gaming). If you need references, Google Images is a great source, simply google their “character names + street fighter” in the search.
Who is that female character under Ken?
Elusive like a shinobi should be, she’s Ibuki.
COLORING QUESTIONS
I’m new to coloring, how much of the lines can I cover?
You can cover or delete lines. However, taking a role as the colorist there’s a fine line professionally as to how much of the lines you can modify or redraw, some colorists change the line color to match the coloring, others paint over it, it totally depends on your style. However, most Pencillers like their line art retained as much as possible, so keep that into consideration on your submission as it will affect your results. Since this is a contest and not for professional work, you can do whatever you like as long as you feel that it’s your best work.
What is Alvin really looking for? Is there a specific style I should be using?
He’s really just looking for something creative, detailed and colors that give visual impact. Simply, something that looks amazing and not a specific style.
SUBMISSION QUESTIONS
Why a 1MB JPG?
Having a low-resolution JPG allows to protect Alvin’s as well as your own work from plagerism. Since the first round of the contest is based on user voting, we will be posting these files for public viewing directly without any further image processing. Our optimum resolution is 950×1468 pixels. This is adds security, saves us time, and storage space. Do NOT delete your original layered work file though, keep it as your personal portfolio.
Will you be accepting a submission based on Alvin’s SF Tribute posted on DeviantArt?
We probably won’t be able to tell from the compressed JPG once you’ve coloured it and submitted it to us. However, if you by chance make it to the 5 finalists, we will be asking for the full layered Hi-Res version of your submission for final judging. If your file was based on the low resolution version, you will be disqualified.
Where do I send my submission?
Send your completed contest submission to info@ALVINLEEART.COM with your subject as “MY SUBMISSION”. Attach your JPG file and type your full name and/or alias in the body of the email.
Can I post my submission on my DeviantArt page?
Sure, we don’t see why not. Please do not provide a full resolution image on DA. The only thing we ask for is proper credits and linking to our contest in your image description.
I made some changes to my submission, can I re-submit?
Yes, if there are significant changes to your piece we welcome the change. All submissions are rejected after the deadline of Sept 30 before midnight EST(Oct 1st), so please make your revisions before then.
I’ve sent in my submission, I haven’t received a response…
As long as you sent it to info@ALVINLEEART.COM the submission should be in our mailbox. Your submission should be received and processed and we’ll be posting them accordingly at the end of the submission deadline. We will not be responding directly to submission emails unless there are concerns with your submission.

Out of curiosity, how many entries were submitted in total? I know you said “hundreds,” but that’s sort of vague and can mean anything ranging from 200-999!
Congratulations on having such great turnout for this contest, Alvin!!

I know we are supposed to have the color challenge finalists announced by today but we have been overwhelmed by the number of submissions we have had to review! Deciding on the final five has proven to be most difficult! Needless to say, the contest has been a complete success, there are so many talented individuals amongst you! Thank you for all of your generous submissions, we will have the five finalists announced shortly!
