The class is pretty awesome. I just finished watching the first lesson, and it has already answered a lot of questions I've had. I'm sooo glad I found out about this class. I was getting really tired of pestering artist at comic book signings for advice... thanks.

P.S. As far as school goes, This is like the best homework...EVER!

You can join Schoolism whenever you see fit, I'm willing to teach! That's the beauty of Schoolism, as you can do it from home at any time. However, if you feel that you would like to go to colledge first that's not a bad frame of mind, and who knows I might still be teaching @ that time!

hi,

im 16 and in highschool right now and ive had lots and lots of trouble deciding what to do (with my life ). at first i thought i wanted to do character design or something, but after looking around and reading about you, im really interested in doing comic book stuff! ive been considering taking your schoolism class thing, but im not sure if im good enough yet, all ive been doing is painting and drawing anime fanart or whatever. should i just start after i get into college? will you still be an instructor like... next year? or will the one in october be the last?

i have so many questions... if you have time, it would be super great if maybe we could talk through email or something, i want to learn as much as i can about drawing comic books and getting a job. (cause... i expect theres a lot of competition? i guess? maybe? ><)

thanks!

Alvin nothing you said embarassed me or made me feel down on myself. A drawing is likened to a child (your child!). You always look at it as if its the best drawing in the world and sometimes its tough to hear I think your kid has big ears and a pointy head! But the truth is the truth and I am only going to get better by listening and believing in what you say.
You never said "you might as well stop, you are no talent hack", all you said was I think your drawing would benefit from...(Fill in the blanks)which was like having you stand over my shoulder and coach me into creating something better then when i started.

Again Thanks

Hey Rob!

Glad to hear that my advice has helped you in your work, my goal is not to embarrass you in any way but to just be honest with what I see. And what I expect to see at an industry level. If something doesn't look right to me, I'll tell you in the nicest way possible so that you don't lose confidence, but I'll tell you nonetheless!

Got my first assignment reviewed and it was awesome and humbling all at once. I have watched it 5 times.

1st Watch: I was embarrassed for what I thought was a great piece.

2nd Watching: I was angry at myself, for rushing the submission. I did it only the one time (No practice).

3rd Watching: I found I completely agreed with Alvin! He was dead on with his critique and re-draw.

4th Watching: I listened and concentrated on the things I need to be better at.

5th Watching: (Not my last I'm sure) I listened and watched took what Alvin was saying putting it together with what I had drawn. I cannot wait to try the changes Alvin suggested in practice.

This course is not for the faint of heart Alvin is objective and holds a high standard that he expects you to live up to. (Sort of like any publisher would) If you want to learn how to draw take any course at your local college or tech school. If you want a glimpse into the life of a comic book artist and what is required. This course is for you!

Thank You Alvin…

Sincerely
Rob

Many questions about DS, not many answers for them at the moment! But Tribbey, You will need a scanner and Adobe Photoshop, possibly a printer but it's not entirely necessary. Comic book boards, non-photo blue pencils and a 2H pencil...all of the tools needed will be covered in the course.
